Essaouira, port city on the Atlantic coast, called Amogdul (the well-guarded) in Berber language, probably because it is so well protected thanks to its long walls. Its medina is a UNESCO world heritage site. Strolling through its endless white streets transports you to another time in a scenario where nothing has changed. Strolling through the streets we find the old Portuguese cannons lined up in battery facing the Atlantic Ocean. Its walls protected the corsairs of Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abadia and later Orson Welles would use them as a backdrop for his film “Othello”.
Do not miss its old port known for its abundant sardine fishing. The predominant color of this port is blue, since it is assumed that the fishermen know well which are the shades of blue that best deceive the sardines and thus improve the catch of the day. Apart from the usefulness they give to the color blue, it should be noted that this color gives this landscape a very relaxing and spiritual aspect.
Essaouira is also consolidating as an important point where you can practice sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing or kayaking.
